Debbie Jackson has a first hand perspective on the challenges that people with disabilities face each day. Not only does she help people who are developmentally disabled, through her work at Reach in Juneau, but a severe injury from a car accident several years ago left her temporarily disabled and totally dependent on public transportation.
"You have to be able to continue to function. You need to be able to pay your rent and buy your groceries, and you can't do that if you don't have a way to get to work."
Long after recovering from the accident, she continues to use the Juneau bus system for all of her transportation needs, and she helps her clients at Reach to become more independent by teaching them how to go places, using the bus.
